Now onto his fourth studio album with Stones Throw since signing in 2011, Homeboy Sandman's deconstruction of genre, structure and verse have become his mark. But on Veins, the Queens' rapper decided to break with breaking with convention and get back to the bare bones of hip hop – as he puts, it, "after spending three years outside of the box, I was left with a burning desire to just fuckin' rhyme". Midtempo beats, a gentle flow and abstract references give Veins an introspective charm but when the energy's upped on tracks like 'Bamboo' and 'A's J's and L's', the album's better for it.
