Mr. Mitch renders his most uniquely melancholic spin on grime yet with Devout, an album that expands on his previous ambient tinted sound with licks of alt-pop and Gobstopper informed soulful emotive passages that carry a sugary addictiveness that is sure to have you coming back for another hit time and time again.

Picking up where his scene setting debut Parallel Memories dropped us off, Devout is about "love, loyalty, family and the start and end of relationships, with an overarching theme about becoming a father, all delivered with warmth and emotion". This pool of influence sees Mr. Mitch maturing his sound, but when you look closer the traces of Devout have been ripe within his discography from the start. Its soulful fragility is cloaked within the icy grime loops of 2012's 'Bethlem Royal' and the Saturday morning slowly turning into the 'Afternoon After' that was central to the blue soaked daze that characterized the opening moments of Parallel Memories.

Devout moves further from the tracks of straight up Boxed style grime bangers and in doing so Mr. Mitch has created a truly timeless-sounding album, yet those looking for bangers don't worry as there is plenty of fully function 1'ing DJ tools. These crop up in the Gameboy lilith drop of Priority, featuring P Money on a note-perfect translation of Mitch's audio translation of his recent fatherhood. Elsewhere the neo-dancehall of VPN featuring Palmistry and Pleasure produced with Py both set an RNB twist that is sure to see many vocalists battering down Mr. Mitch's door begging him for productions to guide their vocals.

What is most striking though, is the use of his own vocals. From the heavy-felt dedication to his children on My Life through to the garage-indebted RNB roll of Our Love (a track just melting with crossover appeal, yet is an underground earworm sure to infect all that fall under its spell). Devout is a modern classic that touches on the cornerstones of grime, RNB and soulful pop, we guarantee once it gets inside your head, you won't want to stray from its side anytime soon.
