A meeting of minds across time and space here. Detroit’s grandfather of techno Jeff Mills teams up with Portuguese orchestra Orquestra Sinfonica do Porto Casa da Musica for a sort of remix-symphony based on Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Full of pomp and circumstance brought about by both bustling strings and burbling synth arrangements, the album promises ‘a tutorial journey of our solar system’. There is a track dedicated to each of the nine planets, plus additional pieces marking the space between each. The grandiosity of the thing is something to behold, and it captures much of the awe and majesty that made Holst’s work a classic for the ages.
