Habibi Funk is a wonderful label which reissues Arab-World electronic/funk records from the 1970s and '80s. This release, their second dedicated to the work of Algerian composer Ahmed Malek, leans on his later-life experiments with synthesisers and found sound that were never released in his lifetime. Given form and structure by Flako, the tapes are characterised by humming keyboards set against nuggets of Malek’s band playing what can best be described as higgledy-piggledy micro-funk, all fast bass runs and skittering half-beats.
