Following on from the eerie compositions they laid to tape on 2016’s Vyamanikal, Tom Challenger & Kit Downes return to Slip (Chaines, Mica Levi & Oliver Coates) with an expansion on their style. Black Shuck contains two lengthy and impressionistic drones for saxophone and organ. ‘one’ moves through several modes across its ten minutes, from drops-in-a-well percussive sounds to sunrise organ, while ‘two’ has a greater stillness to it. Challenger’s strange, stultified reed work is oddly poignant.
