Their second release on Livity Sound (Pev, Kowton, Peverelist) sees Forest Drive West working the same channels as 2016’s ‘System/Show Them’. ‘Jinx’ is a strange beast - the breathy vocal sample and chattering 303 have the listener all set for an eyes-down techno roller before being blindsided by drums that, while still full of groove, keep the listener guessing with their broken patterns and shifting emphasis. On the flip, ‘Scanners’ is a more straight-forward cut of dub-techno where a propulsive kick-drum rhythm underpins a murky, echo-laden patchwork of found sounds. Beautiful artwork too.
