‘Vanguard rock label’ Felte present the fifth album from PVT, a big player on the international touring circuit. With each member now located in a different continent, New Spirit is their first outing since 2013 and is an album full of refreshing ideas. Take ‘Another Life’, a sprawling percussion-led leftfield lullaby for the futurist leaning generation. ‘Morning Mist, Rock Island Bend’ seemingly takes influence from early folk with its sparse instrumentation and imaginative lyricism. Think Jackson C. Frank let loose in Modeselektor’s recording studio, or something. New Spirit manages to eschew easy categorisation, an affirming prospect in the current landscape of pop music.
