The Men in the Glass Booth tells the story of the birth of modern dance music culture. In May 1976, witnessing how disco and subsequently clubbing was taking hold, New York label Salsoul Records set their sights on the dance floor and released 'Ten Percent' by Double Exposure. On its first public play by DJ Walter Gibbons at Gallery 21, a witness commented that "It sounded so new, going backwards and forwards. It built and built like it would never stop. The dance floor just exploded." Not only was it the first 12" ever to be made available commercially (rather than solely to DJs), it also saw Walter Gibbons take an unprecedented step into the recording studio, something that no DJ had done before.
