SiyaThakatha is the first solo release from Dominowe and set to be one of the key releases from Gqom Oh!, the fledgling label dedicated to the sound of Durban, South Africa. Through 2016 they released a series of compilation albums showcasing the raw, street level sounds of South African music. SiyaThakatha is a stripped-down collection of bass, kuduro and slow, chugging Afro-house, making the sound that is known as Gqom. Never over-produced, each track builds slowly, with a dark groove through the whole album. From the minimal percussion of Umthakathi to the self-explanatory ‘Club Killer’, SiyaThakatha tells the story of a movement on the rise.
