Known to the wider world as co-founder of Hamburg’s Dial Records (Efdemin, Pantha du Prince, loads of others), Carsten Jost comes to the foreground here with his first full-length in almost a decade. The ‘perishable tactics’ of the record’s title seem to be based around military metaphor - if this wasn’t apparent enough from the album’s cover, just check tracks like ‘Ambush’ and ‘Dawn Patrol’. Sonically, most of the cuts here are tough techno in the best of the German tradition. Rolands clap and bounce across the LP, underpinning the stuttering grooves of ‘Ambush’ and the delightful lo-pass workout of ‘Atlantis’. ‘Love’ is a near-ten-minute bongo-techno extravaganza, and the ‘Platoon RLX’ pair that anchor the middle of the piece will be a boon to any DJ looking to work the channels of a 120-bpm set.
