Seefeel’s Mark Clifford (Warp) and Loops Haunt’s Scott Gordon (Black Acre) seal the covenant as a duo with their first full-length as Oto Hiax. Following their self-released debut EP in 2015, the self-titled album is released via Vienna experimental label Editions Mego, and conjures up an idiosyncratic 21st century version of musique concrète – a result of the experimental aspects of their respective practices amplified to the extreme.

Their instrumental explorations take them on paths of trembling drones (‘Littics'), pulsating rhythms (‘Hak’) and drowning loops (‘Bearing and Writhe’) to expansive fields of scattered sonic material (‘Lowlan’). The quality of their music arises from this juxtaposition of multiple textures, ranging from the abrasiveness of the drones to the shimmering (‘Insh’), aquatic (‘Bearing and Writhe’) and the submerged (‘Thruft’). But it’s the peculiar trail of random, found sounds – most clearly audible in the clattering and rumbling of ‘Dhull’ – that truly account for the uniqueness of Oto Hiax’ musical universe.
