Long long long overdue repress of FKA twigs' stunning debut record, the highly valued and top of many people's want lists; EP1.
Back in 2012 when our friend at Young Turks called in and handed over this bag of unknown records with a hand-stamped "twigs" on it (this was before the FKA was added) we were blown away by the sounds we discovered inside.
For a while, people slowly picked off the copies of this now somewhat mythical 12" as twigs' profile began to grow, and as the pile of records decreased, the second-hand market prices vastly increased. When we first discovered EP1, it was so far ahead of its time that it's unsurprising that so many people slept on this now considered by many (okay, all) as a future-proofed vision of RNB. A true testament to the record is that still to this day, it stands out as a near-perfect alternative universe number one pop record.
Expertly fusing her heart-meltingly sweet vocals with the digital, round sound of the drum pad, a combination that has come to shape her signature style. Less edgy than her subsequent releases, the downtempo of 'Hide' and 'Breath' account for a flowing lightness - not even the deep frequencies of the beat manage to detain the evanescent reverberations of her voice.
Save yourself a future bankruptcy and buy one while you can, as these are not gonna hang about...
