Continuing the extensive reissue project continues with a vinyl edition of the fifth entry on the label, David Barker and Ian Humberstone mix the old with the new on Devon Folklore Tapes Volume V: Ornithology.

Originally released in 2013 as a split with Children Of Alice, this new edition of DFTV comes with the standard beautifully presented gatefold twin 10" featuring a notebook and extended artwork from David Chatton Barker. This vinyl edition also debuts an extensive new side of research by fellow Folklorist Dean McPhee, as well as the mysterious Mary Arches original recordings.

Formed around the Devonshire lore and legends of the nightingale, robin and blackbird, Ornithology is one of the most tranquil entries in the Folklore Tapes discography yet. Dean McPhee's side portrays a wingspan variety of Kosmiche drones, vibrant puddles of shimmering harmonics mixed with the sort of closing sunset of Fripp & Eno's Evening Star. All overlaid with echoes and swallows of ambient birdsong giving the three pieces a true transportive quality.

Where Dean's 10" is a trance-en-dental nightingale, Mary Arches two movements bask in there titles more suburban White Bird of the Oxenhams, a strong narrative runs through the tracks with The Room sharing the space with spectres that cast a shadow over the Black Dog Traditions of England boxset.

Treading a similar ground to the EVOL's Alku released Rara Avis booklet/cassette, DFTV is one for the Radiophonic birdwatching ambient-folk, just about capping off a brilliant year for the label, one for the high-flyers!
