It’s a wonder this label wasn’t launched years back considering the sheer wealth of music put out by the collective members of Bristol based, Young Echo over the last half decade. Though patience is a virtue that allows the cream to rise to the top, and with this first release from the poetic badman Rider Shafique, they’ve truly set the levels high. Produced by Amos Childs and Sam Kidel, the music is intensely intimate, harbouring feelings of haunting dread via long held chords, environmental squawks and off key string blasts. Shafique’s flow, content and delivery is reminiscent in ways to that of Linton Kwesi Johnson, though don’t get it twisted. He ain't no imitator.
