Astral Black close out the year with a proper sick extended player from Greg & Ed aka Slugabed and Ed scissor, a hyperactive collage of low down beat science with Ed's visionary bars blending elements of UK hip-hop and grime.
This unique collab continues a year of stellar drops from Astral, having opened the year with Drae Da Skimask and followed with sharp cornered slices from Bushido and Impey, Greg & Ed look to close 2016 with a crowning jewel in the label's catalogue of left-field electronica.
Built up out of eight tracks, Greg uses his past editions on Ninja and the still worth a regular spin Stuff Recs 12" to morph a robust set of truly experimental beats that blend the kinda early start city dwelling sound of Aesop Rock and Def Jux blended with a hefty dose of Maxsta & Boothroyd textures. Expertly complimenting this sound, Ed's bars laid down with the sort of cracking roll of an innercity city train track with tales of existential comedowns and terrifying schemesand in the labels own words "Nostalgia as the sun rises at the end of a cool sick rave. Praying hands emoji floating above the horizon". This is perfectly captured in the tightrope style walking on the edge of collapse into chaos that is also favored by Danny Brown's recent cuts.
Giving us the best of both worlds, Astral have bolted the instrumentals on the flip. Some seriously sublime frequencies buried in the mix, turn on super loud for maximum impact endurances.
