The Chilean-born minimal techno overlord presents a half hour reconstruction of ambient composer Oren Ambarchi’s ‘Hubris’. Sustained and looping palm-muted guitar drones wriggle and dance into a percussion led trance-inducing dance floor monster. Split over pt. 1 and pt. 2 (of course...), the rich textures of Ambarchi’s work are mutated into something propulsory complex yet effective for those long, druggy minimal techno parties. In classic Villalobos fashion, we are given something with dual dimensions – music which is almost intrinsically club ready yet at the same time serves as relaxing stimuli for home listening.
