Creating war ready material she can play in her own sets is the ethos behind Ellen Allien’s latest release on her own BPitch Control imprint. Her weapons of choice for the occasion include a Roland 303, 909 and the Minimoog which, together with some dark, distorted vocals create a mood that’s positively Allien. ‘Landing XX’ is a slow burner, built with a wobbly acid line, hard-hitting kicks and clean percussion that respawns throughout, though it’s the distorted vocal and elongated breakdown which defines the character of the track. Melancholic is its mood. ‘Not Alone’ follows a similar trajectory, but with more fire in its belly.
