Following the disintegration of Afrika 70 and an unsuccessful presidential attempt, Fela Kuti formed Egypt '80. The band released ITT (International Thief Thief) in 1980, a 25-minute attack on former Nigerian president General Obasanjo and on corporate honcho Moshood Abiola, CEO of International Telephone and Telegraph, Nigeria's biggest telecommunications conglomerate from which the release takes its name. The ITT was one of the most powerful businesses in Nigeria at that time, and was linked to many controversial affairs globally. Most memorably, the firm was said to have financed the 1973 coup against Salvador Allende in Chile which led to the worst dictatorship in the country. ITT (International Thief Thief) was a demonstration of Fela's fearlessness in outing individuals who exploit their power, and that's something that will never lose resonance.
