Scored for a film revolving around the poet Dylan Thomas’s first week in the United States back in 1950, Set Fire To The Stars incorporates only instruments that were available at the time the film is set. Rhys states that beyond this he didn’t try to stay too true to the era, however, and the result is surprisingly haunting, with the total pop sensibilities of the title track merging with a slightly false sense of nostalgia.

Gruff Rhys presents the soundtrack to the film ‘Set Fire To The Stars’. The album is released on Finders Keepers. Although recorded around the same time as Gruff’s last album (2014’s hugely acclaimed ‘American Interior’), ‘Set Fire To The Stars’ paints a very different picture to that of the Welsh explorer John Evans. Equal parts cocktail jazz, hazy Americana and Atomic Age bop, it’s a love letter to New York in all its hopeful, post war glory - a gorgeous diversion of a record to add to Gruff’s increasingly brilliant solo catalogue.
