Before the vindaloos and the drugs not working, The Verve were simply called Verve and they made an album of shoegaze style psychedelia influenced by My Bloody Valentine. Currently fetching upwards of £200 on the second-hand market, the album is something of an unknown classic, those who have heard it praise it highly and its influence can be heard in groups such as the Brian Jonestown Massacre. The LP in question is called A Storm In Heaven, and it's a really a good album.
