Luke Slater, a man with many names, returns to Ostgut Ton under his Planetary Assault Systems moniker with a new album that keeps things typically spacey and future thinking. Melody is at the crux of this mass body of work, something slater has always had a penchant for, though would often sacrifice for the sake of techno’s core elements - relentless groove and satisfying rhythm. The sound design is about as sci-fi as it gets. From the atypical array of bleeps forced through on ‘Blue Monk’ to the low lying hum that gels much of ‘The Rider’ together, it’s an album built on sounds of the quasi future in which inter-planet exploration is very much the norm.
