Bleep

The American indie rock/dream pop group present their third studio album, Heads Up, after 2014’s self titled LP. Here we find them channelling 80’s DIY new wave and fusing the sentiments with contemporary hip-hop rhythms (see Dre). With the balance between primitive drum machine loops (By My Side) and warm, acoustic piano (Heads Up), the band manage to keep the album varied enough to encourage repeated listening. Our pick of the lot is ‘Don’t Wanna’, which reminds us of Inga Copeland’s anthemic Zazou Bikaye homage ‘Smitten’. Their influences are quite clear but the strength and consistency of the tracks make Heads Up its own.
