Having released a tape in conjunction with Blowing up the Workshop, an LP with Planet Mu, and two singles with Hype Williams member Inga Copeland, it’d be hard to say that John T. Gast hasn’t been keeping good company over the past few years. For this new single-sided 12” on Funkineven’s Apron imprint he readies a grime influenced club banger with a brooding, monotone spoken word sample accompanying us along the way. Think Kowton’s ‘TFB’ but with a hint of Burroughs to it. One track dance records might be a risky move in this day and age (or indeed may have always been), but there is a singular quality to Overseer that we think allows it to revel in its unusual form.
