Sacred Tapes may have made their name through dropping some of the most out-there cassettes of recent years, but this latest release by Twenty-Three Hanging Trees shows that they can also do beautiful when they want. It’s a dark beauty here, mind. Nocturne is characterised by murky drones and pulsing modular synths. The record is best when it’s at its most abstract (the Prurientish ‘Souterrain’) or its most melodic (‘Vertiges’, a grime-adjacent tune that could pass for a Gobstopper release).
