London-based duo Lung Dart - Tim Clay and James Rapson - debut on Prah Recordings. Following enticing full-lengths from Russian sound wizard Suokas and cellist Oliver Coates, this mini album fits in seamlessly into the imprint's recent series of releases, and further establishes the Moshi Moshi sub label as a reliable source for high quality, readily accessible contemporary music. Operating on the experimental spectrum - but not without pop tendencies - Lung Dart nail the brief: while the sound of fireworks completes the waltz of 'Squeeze', the impelling beat of 'One Day You Just Stop' and the trembling bass drone on 'Caliope' illustrate their talent for diverse textures. Their layered, reverberant vocals yield engaging melodies, and their slightly out of tune piano accompaniments account for high recognition value. But mostly, the duo score with their unique sense of humour - it manifests itself in pun track titles like 'As I Lay Drying' or 'Please Font Worry', and unconventional field recording choices such as the sounds of the bowels of Wembley Stadium at 4am. A rare, and thus refreshing interpretation of their genre, which often tends to take itself too seriously.
