Two years on from a last 12” on Antwerp's Ekster imprint, Hiele returns with seven new tracks of abstract electronica moulded in the classic Warp/AI template. Think Aphex, Plaid, BoC, Autechre in his twitchy glitch, off-kilter rhythms and cinematic drones. But also think Mark Fell / SND in Hiele’s granular computer-science. Or even a detuned-Drexciya transplanted across the underwater Atlantic, to a Europe of clicks and cuts and Raster Noton. Hiele is hard to pigeonhole, easy to love. The label, “Shades of Cronenberg, existential fear; Alien funeral dirge overrun by noise in the machine, colonising other plains, clicking alien tongue.” Yes please. Super-handsome artwork to boot.
