It’s not all that often a debut album spans work that has been recorded over a 14 year period, so needless to say Solas (Gaelic for ‘Light’) is a bit of an attention grabber. Working as the Music Director of Union Chapel in London, Singer also travels across the globe to perform at special intimate concerts and present her audio-visual projects. Her debut utilises piano, cello, organ and percussion to craft some deeply personal music and the accompanied fiddle courtesy of Paul Anderson on ‘Eilean’ adds an authentic feel of outer-Hebridean yearning. Not too far away from the music of of Aine O’Dwyer or Richard Skelton, for anyone seeking something similar.
