Following a hand full of EPs and a mini album, Reginald Omas Mamode IV commits his soulful beats to the album format.

Hailing from Peckham, South London, the songwriter produces sun-drenched arrangements of 1970s-inspired disco, soul and funk. The full-length format allows for his lively vocal pieces to be interjected with short instrumental sketches, which add to the album’s narrative that music is inherent within our being: with the stripped back drumming of ‘Drums Of The Positive’ or ‘The Message’, Reginald references the Sega rhythms of his father’s Mauritian heritage. Despite all of its thick bass sounds and the anti-war theme of ’The Value', there’s as much a persevering lightness as there is joyfulness to this self-titled debut – the walking bass of ‘If You Want to Know’ follows an almost comical melody, while the syncopated beats of ‘Interlude’ or ‘From The Soul’ take on Dilla-esque forms, and the jazzy improvisations of ‘Omas Sextet’ represent his playfulness at its best.
