Tokyo’s most inimitable trio of Keiji Haino, Jim O’Rourke and Oren Ambarchi return to Black Truffle with another artifact recorded live from experimental den Superdeluxe. Anyone who has followed the live output of this improvisational trio will be aware of their overwhelming and confounding sound, which effortlessly traverses between moments of cool serenity to paralyzing free-form rock in the blink of an eye; ‘I wonder If You Noticed I’m Sorry…’ sees these hugely talented and intuitive musicians at their most dynamic. As always, Ambarchi’s free-form percussion keeps the rhythm shifting whilst maintaining a very loose structure whilst O’Rourke’s feral string play darts between nimble riffs to brutal passages of monolithic sound, however it’s Haino’s mesmerizing vocals (partially in English!) and bookending motifs on the Turkish Bulgari that steal the show here - a true musical experience.
