New LP of contemporary minimal electronics from Lebanon, revolving around an array of spoken word recordings of personal texts from various writers that Jawad Nafal commissioned for the process. Nafal then took these studio recordings and built upon them with narrative-aiding musical beds, at times incorporating traditional Middle Eastern sounding samples (see ‘Cadavre Exquis’). A long time sound explorer based in Beirut, past projects include dubstep and hip-hop influences, and his work has always incorporated the human voice – though via techniques such as sampling and overdubbing and not as the backbone of the music. Three Voices is a refreshing modern take on avant-garde classics such as Dome’s ‘Cruel When Complete’ or Ruth White’s ‘Flowers of Evil’.
