Low Jack’s co-ran Editions Gravats imprint continues to explore the peripheries with an intriguing cross-pollination of experimental world music and sound art with Extraits EP from French outfit Jiflure. Conjured from a truly DIY live set containing handmade, primitive instrumentation assembled from a range of bric-a-brac, each of the four ‘Extraits’ expose different shades of the same primordial spirit; moving from the gargling plod of ‘Extrait 1’ to the polyrhythmic thumb piano swing of ‘Extrait 2’. ‘Extrait 3’ retreats to a more considered approach, revealing each individual constituent carefully, whilst ‘Extrait 4’ unleashes hell with its churning, tribal mass eventually chewing its way through to a blanket of shrill feedback.
