Vancouver’s Elan Benaroch dons a fresh alias Elka for a fully stocked suite of introspective, nostalgia-laced house cuts for Canadian stronghold 1080p with his debut LP Chants. Constructed with the strictest analogue-only aesthetics, Elka’s faded jams feel right at home on 1080p, such as the stripped-bare beat down of ‘Fairbeat’ or the electro-tinged, airy Detroit feel of ‘Expander’. For what the LP lacks in narrative, it makes up for it in mood, with the sentimental swing of ‘BBX1999’ providing the soundtrack for that rose-tinted summer you never had, whilst the Capcom melodies come out on the bouncier, more playful cut ‘Home Alone’.
