Funkineven’s Apron serves up another hot as hell 12” from the fringes of contemporary house/techno with this new artist, Bastien Carrara. According to the press this is described thus, “Parisian bad boy beats the hell out of his MPC & records onto tape..” Which sounds about right. ‘Summa Breez’ is a tuff jacker with heavyily distorted drums and sweltering pads, ‘Diskother’ meanwhile shows off his sampling chops with a hot-lick soul edit (like Theo P floating on air), and ‘Kinda Late’ wraps up this invigorating 12 by looping up a distended female vocal into a slo-mo chug which Andy Stott would be proud of.
