Blackest Ever Black return to where it all began with the first new material from Raime in almost four years, Tooth is in many ways the culmination of the duo's sound to date - a corroding post-punk influence pulled through the eye of a heavily sedated grime and jungle filled needle point. When they first emerged back in 2010, Raime were characterised by the sparse bone-dry drumz akin to early Shackleton dubstep but built upon an icy field of cold electronic mist whose gaze was centred on more gothic soundtracks and 80's industrial than FWD Thursdays. These compositions were cloaked in vastly cinematic track titles that were more akin to short novels than club trax (see; We Must Hunt Under the Wreckage of Many Systems, If Anywhere Was Here He Would Know Where We Are, Exist in the Repeat of Practice).

Across a handful of EPs and a considered classic LP, Raime perfectly executed a unique breed of post-minimal punk/techno that saw them being praised by everyone from Aphex Twin to Regis. Fast-forward to the present day and they have finally made a return to the forefront of the inner city experimental sounds in urban living that they so perfectly soundtrack. Across the eight tracks that compose Tooth, Raime have reduced each sound to its absolute core, ripping out the inners and building it back up in a unique and carefully constructed manor that dynamically expands upon the live instrumentation of their last published recording, the Moin EP. Much like A Guy Called Gerald's mid 90's ambient jungle masterpiece Gloc Remix (check that tracks Robocop sample "You're gonna be a bad motherfucker" for a taste of the mindset here) Tooth is music where each sound has been scraped over again and again until it stands to be considered fit for purpose in the eyes of its makers, all the fat carefully carved away leaving eight spidery pieces of razor sharp minimalism.

While Tooth's core roots lie in the post-hardcore sound they first explored on tracks like Murphy and The Dimming of Road and Rights, it's here they have been stripped back to the most suffocatingly air tight feel that rolls through the towerblock blues of early Danny Weed riddims via a repetitious Shellac futurism to produce the most individual and strongest eyes down, hoods ups fight for survival amidst detachment sound that you are likely to hear in a nite klub in 2016. Tooth is a luxuriously dark and alluringly harrowing recording that will stand tall long after those around fall by the roadside.
