Classically trained percussionist and keyboard player, Karl Bartos was a key member of Kraftwerk's classic line-up between 1975 and 1990 – "the second from the left" as he was known. In Spring 2016 he released his latest album, Communication. Here, legendary sonic explorer Matthew Herbert takes a track from that record and performs all manner of fun things with it… He’s called it the ‘Doctor Rockit’ mix (a long-time alias for Herbert’s funky electronica), and as with Kraftwerk, and Herbie Hancock’s own ‘Rockit’, the vocoder is primer mover here – getting wrapped up into a lo-fidelity chip-tune waltz of bleeps and bloops.
