MUCH needed evaluation of work pressed on vinyl for this important composer. A true giant of early 20th century composition (although largely unheralded during his own lifetime), Parisian Varese worked alongside Debussy and Rolland, Satie and Strauss in France before heading to the U.S to follow the new modes of electroacoustic, tape music electronic composition. Here, he would encounter and collaborate with the likes Charles Ives, Henry Cowell, and Anton Webern. This essential Volume 1 compilation draws on his most famous work ‘Poème Èlectronique’ (produced for Le Corbusier’s Brussels Exposition); one of the earliest, ground-breaking music concrete works. Elsewhere, you have unsettling collage, incredible percussion pieces; wild and kaleidoscopic music that sounds light years ahead today – let alone nearly ninety years ago.
