Intrepid explorer both sonic and literal Jóhann Jóhannsson travelled to the Antarctic Peninsula to survey the changing landscapes which later inspired End of Summer. Made together with fellow travellers and musician friends Hildur Guðnadóttir and Robert A. A. Lowe, the LP sees a striking blend of voice, cello and electronics to form unearthly ambiences befitting of a place rarely seen by humans. Divided into four parts, we begin our journey with breathy cello drones and patient swells before eventually bleeding into the delicately delivered vocals of End of Summer’s back half. This is cinematic in scope, delivered with ruthless minimalism and restraint.
