After a string of releases on his own Stroboscopic Artefacts label (also home to artists such as Perc, Lakker and Donato Dozzy), Italian-born Berlin producer Lucy touches down on Samurai Horo with a strong new 12” entirely recorded on tape and inspired by an appearance at last year’s Mutek Festival. Killer DNB atmospheres with a techno backbone, and flavours of drone, dub and ambient all in the mix. ‘Eat’ in particular is a fully realised environment – a closed loop not to be explored, but simply to exist in, where the mechanical coexists with the organic. Ominous buzzing ambience leads into the next track, ‘Drink’, which feels a bit more deliberate with its metallic bass pulse. It’s slow and relentless, like water torture. The gurgling of ‘Shop’ is pierced with a strange heavenly hum, before Lucy finishes off with ‘Relax’, a haunting power plant elegy to decaying industry. A bold, experimental, abstract techno EP that distances itself from cloying consumerism.
