Following releases from JoeFarr and Alex Coulton, the fifth record on Bloc’s self-titled label arm comes courtesy of new Bristol producer Facta, who’s previously released on Idle Hands, Tempa and Soundman Chronicles. ‘Alsatian’ starts off grimy and ominous like something on Keysound, before turning into more of an offkey skeletal electro track. Gradually piling on the pieces like a game of Buckaroo, it falls into a drift for the second half, having done its damage. Beneath’s remix is a deep, stripped-down marriage of uncertain bass tremors and Radiophonic Workshop FX that closes with a surprising coda that feels like being unceremoniously dropped through a trapdoor. ‘Scotch Mist’ starts off in a similar vein with shifty percussion – this one’s been out on dubplate for nearly two years and is finally seeing a proper release.
