The latest 12” in 1080p’s never-ending purple patch comes from Montreal’s Ex-Terrestrial (aka Adam Feingold), following last year’s Nuff Zang cassette and other releases for Temple and Apron Records. Paraworld is super chilled-out IDM, all soft new age pads and gentle drum programming. The title track could soundtrack some sort of heavenly ascent, even as the rhythm gets more and more choppy. The extended intro to ‘Aletheia’ is like fading through a rose-coloured mist, before a bumpy proto-jungle rhythm kicks in halfway through. After ‘Dreams of Jupiter’ – a shot interstitial piece that seems strangely aligned with the weightless grime movement – honeyed horn blasts announce the arrival of ‘Blue Smoke’, which rides a dusty hip-hop breakbeat and wildly phasing synths to an ecstatic conclusion.
