WILD concrete abstractions and noise chaos from Dutch painter, sculptor, and poet, Karel Appel. Musique Barbare was realised in the fifties at the Instituut Voor Sonologie where Appel was tasked to compose music for a documentary being made on himself by cinematographer Jan Vrijman – it has never been released. At one point Appe screams “I do not paint! I hit!” and boy does he mean it. All manner of percussion is scraped and whacked and smacked into a riot of clattering anti-rhythm, bloop bleep electronics and tape manipulation. A special record, never before released.
