Another fascinating tape from ATFA lands in our hands, brushed up and sounding great for you digital and vinyl heads. As with all Awesome Tapes, Desdes has a great backstory. Eriterean artist Gebremariam recorded his only LP in 2007 shortly before leaving his war-torn nation before he made his way to a refugee camp in neighbouring Ethiopia before heading to the U.S. Officials there saw a blogpost of his tape on ATFA – and the rest is history. Featuring a hypnotically funky blend of original instruments (the one-string wata and the five-string krar), and a neck snapping rhythm-machine. Get down.
