After some time spent focused on vocal collaborations with the likes of Kelela and D∆WN, and also curating his Fade to Mind imprint, Kingdom returns to the label with his first solo release in three years. ‘Shox’ contrasts martial horns and pounding drums with delicate synth adornment. It’s brutal, yes, but everything feels considered and in place. On the flip, ‘Punished’, Kingdom uses short bursts of silence to hypnotic effect, folding in stiff drums and a Castlevania-esque melody on top.
