Genres

After excursions on Livity Sound and Mistry, Bristol bass heavyweight Batu returns to his own Timedance label with the latest in his prolific run. A dark slice of heat-cracked techno, ‘Monolith’ deals in chirping synths and distorted bass, while ‘Reez’ sounds like a one-woman choir caught behind the grid, trying to find her way back through the mesh. The abrasive low end of ‘Void’ is calmed slightly by the gradual thawing of its glacial synths. On the remix, Lee Gamble’s ‘3rd Rail Deconstruction’ of ‘Reez’ guides the original through a series of abstract movements, like some hazy ballet.
