Respected Austrian imprint Editions Mego presents a stunning meeting of the minds with the collaboration of American improvised guitarist Alan Licht and experimental Japanese artist Tetuzi Akiyama. With both artists prolific in the New York and Tokyo avant-garde scenes respectively, Tomorrow Outside Tomorrow demonstrates their acute abilities at dissecting the signifiers of blues, jazz and the avant-garde and restitching them as extended pieces of improvisational beauty. The Oren Ambarchi featuring ‘Blues Deceiver’ sets out with a meditative drone, gradually mutating to allow in hovering low-end fluctuations and restrained feedback to create a tension-laced exercise in concentrated experimentation. The title track is where the duo’s talents really shine, with delicate guitar picks, subtle electronics and melancholic brass notes collating together to form a plaintive, Miles Davis meets Fennesz expression.
