Ancient Methods and Cindytalk unveil the debut recordings as In The Mouth Of The Wolf for Diagonal, a solid three tracker of fierce industrial techno. While Ancient Methods has contributed to Powell’s imprint before — remixing the label boss’ Club Music EP — Gordon Sharp aka Cindytalk, legendary post-industrial producer and Cocteau Twins affiliate, makes his first appearance on the London label. Their self-titled release references The White Rose, a resistance group around Sophie Scholl which fought bravely against the Nazis, and translates their subversive power into a bold EBM aesthetic. ‘Need of Angels’ presses ahead, its aggressive bass accentuated kick drums stomping away, before ‘Sleight of Hand’ unleashes an avalanche of boulders, burying the rough shreds of distorted vocals under its unbearable weight. The closer, ‘A Search For New Realities’, describes a journey in itself, with its contemplating threads of white noise slowly finding their equivalent in the rhythmical; distorted, metallic percussion.
