The return of Benga! This one’s been anticipated for a minute, the producer’s first release after a two year hiatus. Benga has bravely spoken out about how his mental health issues – brought on by heavy drug use and the pressures of touring – were the reason behind his break. Future Funk is a bold attempt to forge a new musical identity. Much like his old sparring partner Skream, Benga has left dubstep behind, and this EP sees him embracing a certain strand of hard-edged, muscular electro. The title track barrels along on crunchy drums, while ‘Make Moves’ is a pounding acid workout. ‘Power’ is the most ravey of the lot, with an unforgettable four note bassline that should lodge itself inside your skull.
