Believe it or not, it’s been three years since the last Club Constructions on Night Slugs. The 7th edition in the series – following releases from the likes of Helix and Lil Silva – comes courtesy of the mysterious DJC. As usual, there’s no messing about with these four dancefloor weapons – as stripped-down DJ tools, they do their job with precision and power. ‘Capricorn’ is a dizzying melange of crunchy drums, high-pitched vocal stabs and gut rumbling bass. ‘Native’ toys with a nascent melody, but ultimately decides the shock of silence is a more effective tool. On the flip, ‘CC101’ is a raw drum track that sounds like a distant cousin of the famous Billy Squier ‘Big Beat’ sample, while the shuffling ‘CC102’ also has a distinct hip-hop taste.
