Having made his name on labels such as R&S, Rush Hour and Actress’ Werkdiscs, London-based producer Moiré makes the move to Ghostly International’s Spectral Sound imprint for his new EP Lines + Colours. His background in architecture surely informs these immaculate dark house constructions, where no element is superfluous and everything contributes towards the whole. ‘Red Circle’ kicks things off with stuttering bass and a gently shuffling rhythm. With its soft synths and handclaps, ‘Brixton’ is warmer and more welcoming, albeit with an eerie UFO pulse veering in and out of the mix. The title track is the most epic thing here, clocking in at over ten minutes, and it uses this time to stretch out and observe its restless, darting synths from every possible angle. Hazy and paranoid, with occasional glimpses through the thicket, the closing ‘Mirrors’ could be the soundtrack to some sort of Amazonian tea ceremony.
