The No. imprint is run by Material Object and Atom TM (aka Uwe Schmidt, the electronic maestro who has released hundreds of records under various guises on various labels including his own label Rather Interesting). G@ng5ta is the pair’s second full album together as No. Inc. It’s a sprawling abstract journey of ambient/drone compositions, with the occasional faint techno echo. Bookending track titles ‘Insert Coin’ and ‘Game Over’ should go some way towards helping you understand the intentions here. The overriding feeling is one of intense loneliness, like an explorer climbing through abandoned cities, surrounded by the imprint of lost civilisations. It all adds up to a captivating experience, one that rewards total immersion in this world of arid drifts and whirring machines.
